Blackstone Valley Humanity Scholars to Present Creative Depiction of "Media-Impact on Society" at Individual Schools
The Blackstone Valley Humanities Scholars program offers select students from each of the participating High Schools an exciting learning opportunity. Students enhance their studies in American history/American culture, with their faculty advisors by attending professor lectures and seminars that are presented at 4 colleges throughout the school year. Each professor not only speaks to issues pertaining to the year's theme, but also challenges students to think critically and creatively. Overall, the program's design encourages students to be knowledgeable citizens and to accept responsibility in shaping the future of the United States.
This year's 48 select students that include juniors or seniors from Blackstone Valley Technical High School, Blackstone Millville Regional High School, Milford and Bellingham High Schools, have spent this inaugural Humanities Scholars year studying "Media-Impact on Society", visiting Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Stonehill College, Providence College, and Bryant University. Each campus visit included a faculty lecture, discussion group, campus tour, lunch, and gallery visit.
If they choose, each school will host their own "Presentation Night" and feature a creative depiction of what aspects of "Media-Impact on Society" they learned at each of the 4 campus visits.
A new group of sophomores and juniors will be selected for the next academic year's Blackstone Valley Humanities Scholars program. Their study topic will be announced in September.
