Teachers' master degree program to be offered locally.
A coalition of Blackstone Valley curriculum directors and the Blackstone Valley Chamber of Commerce Education Foundation is introducing this fall a master degree program for teachers to be held locally at Douglas Middle/High School. The program, called The Blackstone Valley Teachers' Academy, will be offered through Worcester State College Division of Graduate and Continuing Education.
The Blackstone Valley Teachers' Academy is open to anyone who teaches in the Blackstone Valley or is interested in teaching. Applicants must have completed a baccalaureate degree at an accredited institution. The program will focus on skills required to be an effective professional teacher. Under the Education Reform Act, teachers must complete a master degree program within five years of beginning teaching.
Courses will be meet one evening per week and alternating Saturdays. Two one-week, full-day courses will meet next summer. The cost of each three-credit course will be $350, which does not include books or materials. Registration deadline is June 14, 2002. Late registrations will be accepted on a space-available basis.
